See this all started as just a soundboard for my thoughts and the happenings of our day to day but somewhere I got swept up in that day to day and had to leave the documenting behind. I have missed it, mourned over the things I might not remember, and told myself that some seasons in life require simply living in the moment. Some seasons are so vibrant they are sure to be remembered.

The season of our life has changed so much this year and while it has brought so much busy it has also brought so much joy and excitement. We moved late this summer into a newer, much larger space that has been such a blessing to our family. Words can not express the utter joy and excitement these last three months have brought settling into our new home. As strange as it sounds this new place we call home has changed our family immensely. A season of contentment, peace, and thanksgiving.

Our boy is magical these days. He is changing so much and I struggle to hold onto the baby he once was. He is the primary reason I find myself compelled to come back here to write. I want him to know how brave he is, how smart and determined he is, and just how independent he is becoming. I want him to know that he has his Daddy's fun loving spirit and sense of humor and his Mommy's determination and meticulous nature. A season of discovery, laughter, and maturity.

Oh he is so brave...I can see that he is nervous, maybe even a little scared of this or that, but that doesn't deter his curious nature. He wants to see that spider he found in the yard, and maybe even touch it. He wants to go see the "spooky" decorations and often the spookier the better. Oh my little thrill junkie, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Meticulous is for certain, and opinionated as well. While carving pumpkins this year he chose his own pumpkin face, had to make sure it was "silly!" He was quick to bring me the IPad so he could hop on Pinterest just like Mommy and with a little help select a cute little silly face to put on his "punkin." Thank goodness Daddy can freehand like a champ or we could have been in trouble. And as Daddy and I carved all the while he gave his assurance we were doing a good job with a gentle "yeah" or "good job" every now and then. Nothing beats his proud face when he walks by that pumpkin every day, takes a glance, and gives a little grin.

Our life is calming again, the newness wearing off and a sense of familiarity creeping in. We are settling into patterns and with them a new season. A season of comfortable, of optimism, and of hope. And as much as I love this space, all its memories and stories, another colorful season too busy to write and record would be just as cherished as one less occupied.

Here is our little snow bunny playing in the snow for the first time at 21 months...

His expressions are priceless!!

Jackson is very much into music this month. He is getting very good at singing songs and dancing. He knows all of the actions to "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "The Wheels on the Bus." He is singing phrases out of the songs and we can't forget the resounding "YAY!!!" at the end of each song. He also loves to dance around the room to lots of different kinds of music. It's no surprise with as much as his Daddy loves music that he too would love music.

Jackson's vocabulary is exploding!! I am amazed at the words he can say and his ability to communicate. He can speak in small phrases and he repeats every single word I say. Even more than his speech he is able to comprehend so much better this month. He seems to understand the most complex things like when I am stressed or sad. He comes over to me and loves on me and looks at me in the face very intent on my expressions.

Big boy is growing strong weighing about 28 pounds, about 33 inches tall, size 24 month clothes, size 6 extra wide shoe, and size 5 diaper. He is an agile little thing, running fast, and jumping like a pro.

Jackson continues to show his independent side wanting to dress himself, brush his own teeth, even get his own snack or drink. He still loves to help as well and was sure to shovel the snow with Daddy.

Toys he likes this month, post Christmas, are his tool bench and drill, his choo choo trains and tracks, his Woody doll, and his new puzzles. He continues to love to be physically active. He will wrestle and make all kinds of crashing boy noises. He cracks me up when he gets out a couple of cars and bangs them together making crashing noises. He saw a gun toy playing with one of his cousins over Christmas and I was astounded when he picked it up and made shooting noises while pointing it. He has never seen a gun and I had no clue he would just know what to do with one.

Hands down favorite part of this month...my little boy learned to pray!! He folds his tiny hands at the dinner table and each night before bed. He listens quietly while we say the prayer and then at the end he says Amen. It warms my heart reading to him out of his Bible each night and saying prayers with him. I hope I am raising a sweet God fearing little man that will lead his family well someday.
We love this little boy and there isn't a day that goes by that he doesn't have us laughing and smiling at each other in pure delight.
The magic, the tradition, and the surprise left me with such pure happiness and joy.

In the days leading up to Christmas Jess and I relished in all the traditions we have enjoyed year after year and added a new one or two.

Our Polar Express date night with hot cocoa and sugar cookies was a huge hit. Jackson was completely mesmerized by this movie and his excitement over the magic made me so very happy. Through the entire movie he kept making these surprised faces and looking at me with these bright eyes.

Seeing the lights at the park is a tradition we have celebrated for several years. Last year we made our way through the line with a snuggled up sleeping baby in the back seat. It is hard to believe that just one year later Jackson was sitting on my lap in amazement.

Our Christmas flowed just as many have in the past, Christmas Eve at my parents, Christmas morning at home, then to Grandma B's, and finally back to my parents. The days are busy but oh so fun!!

As with most things these days it was all about Toy Story and Choo Choo trains.

Meeting Woody for the first time...

Jackson was very excited Christmas morning seeing his new tool bench from Santa. He played and played...in fact it was a bit difficult to get him to move to something else once he saw a gift. He wanted to play with each thing for a bit and then move to another present. Good thing we only had three wrapped gifts for him or it could have taken us all day.

Wow!! This month has flown by. With the business of the holidays upon us I barely recognized this as a month. It has felt like a week or two.

Jackson is enjoying the Christmas season to the fullest. We have been doing all kinds of fun activities to prepare like shopping, and baking, putting up the Christmas tree and wrapping gifts. One thing we enjoyed this month was baking a batch of sugar cookies and decorating them with icing. This showed me how much his fine motor skills have come along lately and ever since Jackson will ask for a cooo-kie at all hours of the day. He can do many activities without much help these days.

The newest thing Jackson is doing this month is joining his words together. He can say many two word combinations like "Jackson up" or "more please." My favorite new words are "luh you," and when he says those magical words my heart melts. His vocabulary continues to expand and he can interact with language in a whole new way. He watches what you are saying very carefully and thinks about it before reacting or responding.

Jackson is obsessed with helping out Mommy and Daddy. He likes little tasks like throwing something in the trash, putting away his toys, and stirring something I am going to cook. He likes to feel like he is involved in everything!!

Jackson spent about two weeks this month really testing his limits and throwing some massive fits. It seemed like every night he would get upset about exerting his independence and it would spin out of control. He would spend the whole night upset and easily thrown into a fit. Those evenings ended with Mommy exasperated on the couch upset and Jackson into bed early. It is so frustrating to feel like the time you get with your little one is spent in such an uproar. I am glad we are finished with that little phase.

Another thing we have been enjoying this month are art projects. When we are home together we do a project each day. He really likes to color, paint, and work with STICKERS!! He really loves stickers the best. He knows when we are going to have art time and he goes to get out all of his stuff. He sits very still and quiet while he makes his masterpiece. When he is finished he will babble on and on telling me what he created. I love that he has a creative side and I hope to expand it this next month with playing with some play-doh.

Christmas is on the Horizon and I have never been more excited!! I know it is going to be a blast this year!!

XOXO,
JennJenn Ryanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16326085015978221643noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7830212319844677549.post-82025319360850672522013-01-02T09:42:00.002-06:002013-01-02T09:42:47.328-06:0019 MonthsA post from November...

When I started this crazy year I told myself I would go with the flow, take pictures of our life as it came and continue to document Jackson's growth and progress with the compilation of photos. This may have been a bit of a mistake as I have been so slow to get these posts updated. Something more formal may need to be in the works for his next year or I will continue to lag behind.

This month the shift from baby to toddler was felt in this Mamma's heart. He is so BIG and the reality of the baby days being over are upon me. His independence astounds me and makes me so proud as a Mother.

Jackson is talking with more ease and picking up words left and right. He mostly repeats what we say and has been gaining a bit of comprehension as the months progress. He understands our routine, and flows from one thing to the next, never missing a beat. That being said he doesn't much like his routine changing lately. It's usually not like him to be upset at a change in plans but this month especially he has been hooked to his routine.

As usual Jackson is mobile as ever. He loves climbing, and hiding, building, and crashing. He will climb up in a chair to sit down and have a snack, look at me and say "Big". He too is proud of his growth and accomplishments. We are getting ready for the holidays around here and he is liking having new things to explore and play with.

Blocks are a favorite toy this month. He and Daddy will build some elaborate tower of blocks and then Jackson will come swooping in to knock them all down, only to rebuild them again. We have made many visits to Chik-fil-A this month to give him an opportunity to climb the play place while I watch. That place is so clean and designed perfectly for his age. I have a feeling we will be there many times over the winter months because I am not a fan of playing in the freezing cold.

Jackson is growing quite a bit lately. As I put on his clothes and see the pants are too short or the top is too tight I am reminded that as this season changes over I will need to buy him a new wardrobe in 24 month sizes.

We spend our days relaxed, staying in our PJs until lunch when we can. I so enjoy getting on his level and playing with cars and trucks. He loves to drive his cars around his Little People garage or put together a puzzle. Seeing him learn before my very eyes makes me want to stay home even more. Jackson also enjoys 30 minutes or so of television each day. I try to restrict it but some days he sneaks in an extra 30. He enjoys watching Sesame Street, Toy Story, and Finding Nemo.

Well I suppose after the holiday it is time for this Momma to begin birthday party planning, or at least get a theme in mind. I can't believe in just a short 5 months he will be a two year old. I will miss referring to him as so many months old. He will just be 2...
Here is Jackson's Halloween...

Jackson's costume stems from his insane love for animal noises these last few months, especially the lion. He can see a lion anywhere and he will start roaring. It is one of our favorite things he does and we both felt like he just had to be a little lion. I wanted to make his costume so badly but when I was presented with a very nice Babies R' Us coupon, realizing it would be more expensive to actually make it, we resorted to buying one. I think it is super cute and several people at Jackson's school actually asked me if I did make it. Not sure if that is a compliment or not but I'll take it.

Halloween has always been very low key for our little family. We usually end up vegged out on the couch waiting for a small group of trick-or-treaters to come our way, watching movies and eating most of the candy from our treat bowl.

We both knew with having Jackson our Halloween adventures would take on a new dimension but we have still managed to keep it low key around here. My camera was on the fritz so of course I only have a few, somewhat blurry, cell phone pictures to document the night. These days I take what I can get with Jackson. He isn't always the most cooperative toddler, but then again who is at that age.

We started the day at Jackson's school for his Halloween party. He had snacks with all of the other children and it was so cute to be a part of his class for an hour. Just seeing him interact with the other kiddos and his teachers makes me feel so good about where he is when Jess and I are at work.

Our trick or treating was a little sparce but not to worry we still had plenty of candy to go around. He totally got the concept of trick or treating and saying "thank you" but he did get a little grabby with the candy. He so enjoyed putting stuff in his bucket that he just wouldn't stop. It was very cute and very funny.

At the end of the night Jack snuck one piece of candy. Unknown to Jess and I Jackson was slipped a mini candybar. He loved it!! Good thing it was only a mini because boy was he on a sugar high!

Holidays are such a blast with our little man and I know they just keep getting better and better. Judging by his love of Halloween this year, next year is going to be so much fun!

We talked about Santa all day, snuck in a second nap for a rested little one, and pressed a mini man outfit for the cutest little toddler.

I tried to get a few snapshots before taking off but without bribery, staged photos are impossible to get with Jackson. He did do a few spins for me and gave me a good laugh or two. We tell him to turn around and let us have a look and he spins in circles until he is dizzy.

I'm proud of my brave little man for at least meeting Santa Claus and even giving him a high five. Santa didn't seem too hurt. Actually I think Santa may get that reaction a lot and he knew just what to do.

After telling Santa what he wanted for Christmas we got to eat at the train restaurant and Jackson was in awe. He is train obsessed!! Even woke once in the middle of the night to the sound of a train and needed to tell the world all about it. At Fritz's he sat patiently and watched as each train delivered food to others waiting and his eyes lit up when the train finally delivered our food.
The night was such a blast and a reminder to me that this season isn't about the hustle and bustle I have been feeling lately but about taking time out to just enjoy a night with the ones we love. The giant Mayor's Christmas tree was our last stop. It is a magical sight all those lights, the fountains, and the music. Puts me in the Christmas spirit and makes my heart happy.
Jackson has become quite a fan of Christmas as well. He loves our tree and hanging ornaments, looking at each one carefully and smiling with excitement. We read his Christmas story book every night and have been learning the real meaning of Christmas. I am so thankful to have him and to see him light up like he does with Jess and I amongst all of these new discoveries. It is just a magical season...truly magical.

Today we abandoned the mile long to-do list and retreated to the country for an afternoon of fun. The afternoon quickly turned into the evening and bedtimes were added to the list of things we abandoned by the time we made it home. It was a wonderfully perfect day and oh so refreshing, like food for the soul.

This picture is one of my favorites of the day. It describes our little man perfectly. He is so crazy these days, all over the place, making his mark on the world.

And we can't forget about this photo either. Totally defines him!! He is just too busy for this picture taking business...he has places to go and things to see!!

He is soooo in love with trains!! The pumpkin patch we went to has a train and he was so very excited to ride this with his Mamaw B and his Great-Grandma.

Waiting to get on the train...
He moved from place to place soaking up all the fun, nudging in next to the "big kids" and then spotting something else he liked better, only to take off running again.

It was such a beautiful day and we soaked up every last second, catching the very last hay ride of the day to see the sun set. Our little independent toddler insisted on sitting alone like a big boy.

This place had it all and although our families had decided to visit a new pumpkin patch every year we all decided we would be returning to this one year after year for quite some time.
Most of all we just enjoyed being together, watching him run from place to place and be so very happy to be outside.
I am sure it is the same for all toddlers but he is always so incredibly happy to be outside. I'm not sure what we will do this winter when it is cold but I guess I will have to brave the temperatures.
I love the fall and all the fun it brings like playing in the leaves, carving pumpkins, and dressing up in costumes but I am so looking forward to Christmas this year. I can tell he is going to be a blast and I have already started thinking about all the traditions I want to indulge in this year.

@18 Months:
-You are growing like a weed. You wear all 18 month clothes and a few 18-24 month items.
-You can be a picky eater but you love all fruit and you really love pizza just like your Daddy.
-You continue to learn at an alarming rate. You have started to piece words together into little short sentences. You really like to say "Go school!" when we are leaving for your school in the morning. We are trying so hard to get you to say "I Love You"
-You are so funny and make the cutest faces. You are a ham and love to make others laugh. You will do just about anything to get someone to laugh and it gets you giggling so loud.
-We are playing lots of games these days. You like to play hide and seek, catch, and bowling. You also have a little mini cart Daddy gave to Mommy to use for the post office and you like to put some items in a basket on the cart and wheel it around the house. Always a little busy beaver!!
-You weighed in at lbs 15 ounces and were inches tall. I was so glad to say good bye to the last shots you will have to get until you are five years old and though you don't realize it you are glad too!!
-You are getting good at counting and love to practice when we are playing.
-You make some funny faces!! Your surprised face is the best!
-You like to climb on anything!! You scare me and I can not leave you for a second because you will climb on chairs, desks, bookcases...you name it you will find a way to get on top of it.
-You are still my little sweet boy and you will come over just to give me a hug or a sweet kiss. You are very choosy about your love but when you dish it out we soak it up!! I love those little moments and they make me feel so proud that you love me so much you have to take a pause out of your play to tell me about it.

Love you <strike>baby</strike> toddler boy!!
I wish I could say things will get better but at this stage in life posting may just continue to be this way. We are enjoying every spare minute we can together because well life is very busy these days. I will continue to post about Jackson and some of our big important family things but not much more for now.

Jackson turned 17 months last month and while I didn't have much time to get a post up or take many pictures life was just as beautiful as ever!! We relished in moments of fun and laughter as our little baby grows into a little boy. He has us cracking up daily.

Jackson's 17th month can only be described in this video. The amount of learning that took place in that one short little month astounded me!! As a worried Mama I was stressing when my little one seemed slow to say words. Our pediatrician reassured me that when he started learning words he wouldn't stop and his vocabulary would grow at an alarming rate. Well he wasn't kidding.

So cute!!

This month was all about learning!! He is exploring his world every day in new ways. Sometimes this involves being cute and funny, sometimes sweet and caring, and other times a holy terror of ornery. He keeps us on our toes!! He is playing like a little boy; throwing things, zooming cars all around the room, wrestling, and making wild noises.

He loves choo-choo trains and can hear them a mile away. His eyes get all big and he gets super excited!!
Nothing much else has changed about his little guy. Still wearing 18 month clothes, eating like a horse when he isn't as picky as ever, and sleeping like a champ. He continues to be the highlight of our days and the reason we leap out of bed when we hear him up for the day.

Life with you is stunning. You are sweet and fun and you have such spunk. I look at you and can't believe you are ours. Our little boy.

I wish I had words to describe how much your father and I love you. You are the biggest blessing in our life, you make us better, you bring us closer, and you complete our family.

As you grow and mature you loose a little bit of baby every step of the way. But I still see it...mostly in these fleeting moments. These moments that are forever embedded in my memory and tied to a string that leads directly to my heart.

These moments...

In the still of the night when I grab you from your crib because I just can't stand to go all night without holding you close for a snuggle. You are so sleepy but you can't help lifting your head every few minutes to give your Mommy a sweet paci smile. You may be bigger but you still have those chubby baby legs that stretch across my lap.

The way you grab onto my finger when we walk together reminds me of the very first moment your hand ever grasp mine and the overwhelming feeling of love that hit me as I smiled at your Daddy. One of the most perfect moments of my life!!

The way you cling to me for a hug, lay your face against mine and let out an awwww, just as you have since you learned "hugs" at 9 months old.

The excited look you get on your face as you look at something new or surprising and then to us. We are hooked on that face!! I hope you never loose that excitement for life, that passion.

The way you are in constant motion reminds us of all the times we would watch you, before we even knew you, bounce around in my tummy and dream about meeting you.

You are growing and changing and blowing our minds. I want you to always know that your Daddy and I are so proud of you, you are all we can talk about when we are together or apart, and you truly make our family whole. We have a love so deep for you.
We can't wait to see what you have in store for us in the future but you will always be our little boy and we will always think of these moments you have given us. Little gifts we will never forget as you grow.
Love Mommy and Daddy

16 months
*Brought on lots of jabbering. You are saying sooo many words: bye-bye, thank you, bubble, frog, turtle, nana(banana, or your Grandma Karen), shell(Michelle), and many many more. You are repeating everything we say these days.
*Eating and sleeping routines are the same. You are getting really good with utensils this month.
*Growing: 18 month clothing
*You love to do new things like craft projects, watch science experiments, or help me cook and clean up. You want to be involved in everything Daddy and I are doing. You even like to wear Daddy's shoes around the house.
*You love pretend play like driving your trucks on roads we make out of masking tape. Daddy says you make better car noises at 16 months than Mommy ever has. I think this must be some kind of gene men are born with because he is right.
*Lots of new teeth: all your molars are in and three of your four canine teeth. We will all be glad when you have finished this stage of development because it makes you so miserable.
* YOU COUNT!! Yes you can count from one to three as long as Mommy gets you started. So smart my little one!!
*You know all of your body parts including your belly button, which is your favorite. You even try to say belly button, which is adorable!!
*You discovered your shadow and we like to stand and wave to him.

All in all you are brilliant and perfect and we love you!! I know why couldn't I have just said that and been done with it...

Today I am struggling...ever struggled? I swore at the start of 2012 this year was going to be different and we were going to make positive change in our lives. We put everything we had into our budget, our health, our home. I can't help but look back and think...yeah we have made some headway but we still have so much to accomplish...

I have spent many a nights asking God why he hasn't fulfilled my life with the things I have been longing for (selfish I know, right). Today as I read my Bible and thought about "the desires of my heart," (Psalm 37:5-7a) I realized I am missing a crucial piece of this equation.

"Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him"...(Psalm 37:5-7a).

I have not been patient and frankly I do the bear minimum when it comes to delighting myself in the Lord. It is so hard not to focus on my plan, especially for this organized planner of a person. I am always working on a schedule, a plan, or the next step. Frequently church isn't part of the plan because it interferes with our ability to "get things done."

Priority number one is to make my life about God and his plan. Priority number two is to trust in him to do what is right for myself and our little family. Priority number three is to focus on all the wonderful things God has helped us accomplish this year and give that glory back to him.

God will give us the desires of our hearts...and even more!! They may be different plans than our own but they are wonderful things and things far beyond what we can imagine. Put God first in your life and all else will fall into place.

I'm not saying it will be easy but I am going to put God back at the forefront of my life and my plans. There will be times I falter and wonder why, or why not now, but I know I will never be disappointed by what he has in store for us. After all, look at all that he has helped us achieve in this life thus far; amazing and wonderful things I never thought would happen.

We have been busy soaking up every last second of this summer and the time I have had off from school. This week ends that time off and judging by the size of the four books I have for my classes this semester I'm not sure I will see time off again in my near future.

Jackson and I topped our summer off with a little impromptu trip to Nebraska to see my family. We soaked in the sun, lounged, shopped, and went for long walks in the park all weekend. It was amazing and relaxing. No where to be and no time constraints.

We spent an entire day lounging out by the pool and playing in the water. My little fish has grown quite fond of the water and is getting so comfortable. There were a few times I had to rescue his brave soul in the baby pool but otherwise he and his arm floatie friends did an awesome job.

Everything we did all weekend was a family affair. Great Grandma loved getting a little spoil in here and there. She was brave enough to do something I haven't even done yet. She trotted right over and got him an ice cream bar and sat with him to eat it.

He had a blast making a huge mess eating that ice cream. When it was all said and done Grandma had chocolate and ice cream running down her legs. She was such a good sport to let him indulge while we all watched.
In my Grandparents town there is a horse racing arena and in August and September you can go bet on the horses. I have never been to anything like this because we are never there at the perfect time of year to go. I was so excited to see the horses race but I didn't think I would ever bet on the them. I ended up betting on a few races and had a lot of beginners luck!! It was so fun to look at the horses before the race, pick out the one I liked the most and then go place my $1 or $2 bet. Then we would sit back and cheer.
This weekend Jess and I top off our summer with our annual canoe trip. We are super excited and so happy that the weather has gotten a little cooler this week.

Hope every one's summer is winding down well. Take a little time to take it all in and relax. Have a great week!!

XOXO,
Normally I would be disappointed in myself but not this month. We have accomplished so much this past month with our home and me with the business. The Lovely Apple had it's busiest month so far with a whopping 21 orders and we have finished our kitchen, painted our new fireplace and just about have our laundry room finished. I have thrown myself back into digital scrap booking and I have made some great strides towards finishing his first year. I am so excited that we managed to tone down our social calendar and get some things done.

Jackson is as spunky as ever. He has been a real pill this last month but I finally have my finger on what has been bothering him. He wants so desperately to tell me things that he just can't tell me. His inability to communicate has thrown him into tantrums you wouldn't believe unless you saw them. I can usually calm him by getting on his level and telling him to show me but sometimes he is beyond reason.

Jack's vocabulary is expanding and he is beginning to mimic my words a little more. I am happy for him that he is able to communicate a little better. New words: NO!, shoes, bubble, Buzz(from Toy Story), blue, two, and occasionally he will sneak in a word after I say it but these words he says all the time.

His playing is changing again. He continues on his independence streak but he is typically a very destructive little boy wanting to throw things, hit things together, and wrestle. This past month he has wanted to do some more organized playing like building forts, playing hiding games, building with blocks, and my favorite, coloring or playing with Mommy's sticker drawer. I am going to have to stock up on stickers because he loves to color a picture and then top it off with some fun stickers.

Jackson continues to love to read, to watch his favorite movie, Toy Story, and to play outside. I can't get him to come inside when I am exasperated by the heat so of course that ends in a tantrum as well. He will stay out there for hours watering plants, playing in his water table, going for wagon rides, and just exploring new things. He loves to explore new things. I let him play in my Tupperware drawer the other day and he was content for a good thirty minutes.

Eating has gotten a bit better, not because he is eating better but because I have decided to go with the flow. I don't want to fight with him everyday so I modified all of our diets. Jackson loves beans, LOL. So we have been eating a lot of those lately. I have had to get a little creative with how to incorporate these into every meal but they are his source of protein and that is important to me so we have been managing. Bottom line, beans are healthier than meat anyway so we are probably better for the change. He is still a rock start with breakfast and drinking his milk.

Jackson brought home a nasty habit from daycare this month...hitting. He will haul off and slap me in the face just because he wants to test me. At first I didn't know what to do and it was difficult for me to hold back my laughter. Eventually I got wise and realized he was trying to see how I would react so I started reacting. Time out has ensued at our house. We have a special corner just for time outs and when he hits or he wants to throw a fit he goes to that corner to do so. He picked up on the concept quickly and has even put himself in time out a couple of times before I could even react. I think its working but it's hard to tell sometimes. I want him to be good and disciplined but I don't want to break his spirit getting him there. I see so many people out and about who beat their kids down and break their strong will just to get them to behave. I feel like there has to be a middle ground; one where he will continue to have his strong spirit but will also be a good little boy. A few of our friends have little ones like Jack so hopefully they can give us some pointers. And of course we all know I was exactly this way as a child as well.
Life has never been more interesting or different than Jess and I have ever lived. We find ourselves trading date nights for family nights without even second guessing. We are so happy just being together, wherever we are. And Jack brings us so much love and joy. He has us laughing all the time even if we have to go to another room to do it so he won't see.

We started swimming lessons this summer. I wanted a fun family activity for all of us this summer and I thought it would be a good idea to get Jackson acclimated to the water before he developed a fear of it. It has turned out to be such a blast.

Jackson has always loved the water and was never afraid to jump right in but we found when we were in a larger mass of water his perspective changed a bit. He began lessons five weeks ago very timid of the water and spent most of the lesson latched onto us for dear life. Now he lays out in the water, kicks his legs, and does his little swimmer arms all around the pool. All the while I cheer him on as if we are the only ones in the entire pool (I could totally be one of those crazy Moms at her child's sporting events someday).
This week he was all about jumping into the water from the edge of the pool and sticking his little face in the water to blow some bubbles. Such a dare devil this little one has become.
These little moments remind me of just how determined he is and how proud I am to be his Mommy.
The weeks and months just fly by. These photos are about a week and half after Jack turned 14 months but better late than never. I promise to be on time this month and I have a little something special planned for his 15th month.
Jack turned 14 months old on June 13th. We celebrated by going to get his second hair cut. This little boy's hair grows so fast, just like his Mommy's. He enjoyed a sucker at the hair salon and was a little trooper just like the first time.

This month marked the last of Jackson's nights with a bottle. My little baby boy is all grown up. Jackson takes a sippee all day long and before bed he eats a little snack and has a sippee of a couple ounces of milk. Our bedtime routine is a little different without the bottle and took a bit of adjusting but he is mostly used to it now and goes to bed without any tears. Our routine revolves around jammies, brushing teeth, stories as a family, and then snuggles in his chair. In order to get rid of the bottle I just made a really big deal of how big of a boy he was for brushing his teeth and reading stories in his chair. He really didn't seem to mind much that the bottle was gone.
Daytime routines at home are about the same...up at 9, breakfast, playtime, lunch, one long afternoon nap, up for playtime, dinner, playtime, and then bath and bedtime. His afternoon naps are a glorious time for me to get some things done.

Jackson's protest to eating meat has continued this month. I am really struggling to get what I consider a "good" diet in for him. One day I will have no problem getting him to eat something and then the next day it seems like he hates it. I figure this is just a phase and I am trying to be patient and flexible with him. I spoke to his doctor about this at his last appointment and he assured me that he is getting enough protein in his milk and eggs that I am able to get in him.
All in all Jack has been just amazing and fun. Each month brings new challenges and he is pushing me with wanting to be independent these days but it is fun to see him explore his independence. He likes to watch us and mimic what we do. He can brush his own teeth and hair, likes to try and put on his own clothes, and has begun to eat with utensils like Mom and Dad, puts away his toys when asked, and helps me do simple house chores like vacuuming and laundry. He likes to help Daddy mow the lawn, actually he down right insists on helping with just about everything. This kiddo also LOVES to water my flowers. He is so funny...each time we come home he goes and gets the watering can, goes over to the spout to get water, and then carries it over to the plants to water them.
Jackson can be as ornery as he is sweet at times. He tests my patience at times and I can see it in his smile that he knows what he is doing is wrong but he just wants to see if I will let him get away with it. This past month I was working on cleaning up lunch in the kitchen and I heard things get very quiet so I went to investigate. Jack was standing on a chair in his playroom trying to reach a stuffed monkey on an upper shelf. I just stood there in shock!! I am constantly amazed by his learning and his physical strength and ability.
He is not a boy of many words but I know that he understands me. He can say dog, duck, Momma, Daddy, uh-oh, and drink. He watches my lips very closely when I talk to him but he hasn't quite started to mimic my words yet. I will keep pluggin' away and I know someday soon I will be amazed by his vocabulary.
My computer got a nasty bug and spent several weeks away getting fixed. Then when I got it back I had to take some time to re-install a few things. I am up and running again but I have missed a lot of blogging. I missed my little man's 14 month post all together and here we are just about at 15 months. I am going to do my best to catch you all up on what we have been up to around here.

Today Jack and I took a little time to get some sun with a water play day. He is too funny these days. I love everything about this age right down to his temper tantrums. Life can be rough around here some days but I always go to bed exhausted and with a smile on my face because well he just really cracks me up.

So far this summer we have enjoyed play dates with friends, celebrating our Daddy, popsicles, sidewalk chalk, sprinklers, swimming lessons, and lots of family time. Jess and I have been so busy too. We have been working on getting our house ready to go on the market. Long days and nights of organizing, painting, and sprucing things up for the day we decide to finally sell this place. All that was put on hold this past week when we got word that Jess will need to spend some time off work. Hopefully it won't be for too long and we will be able to get back on track. I managed to finish up school this past week and should have about a month free from that during which time I have a HUGE project I would like to accomplish...

Remember this...

Before Jackson got moving and grooving I used to spend an hour or so a day working on his first year scrapbook. That was long ago and I am way behind. It is my goal to finish this puppy up before my next semester starts and I get to busy to remember my own name.

Things have been going well otherwise, just livin' life. I have gotten some much needed work days with my bestie on the business as well and we should be rolling out some new products as well as a new website in the next month. All of this has been very exciting and a dream come true for us both.

Since I didn't have my computer this past month I took most of my photos on my phone so here is a little photo dump from my phone...Enjoy!!

I knew it would happen eventually; that I would have a plateau and that it would just mean I needed to step up my game and not be discouraged but I am discouraged. This isn't a plateau...this is the direct result of poor choices. I have chosen to be too busy to care about my body these past couple of weeks. At least I can admit that this has served as a good slap in the face and I will commit myself to getting back on track.

Here are some of my mistakes: (When you see the words "too busy" substitute "too lazy")

I was "too busy" to workout. Granted working out after a twelve hour shift is simply impossible. I am lucky to make it safely to my bed in the mornings and admit to falling asleep at stop lights a time or two. I have been working a lot of shifts and typically I like to work out in the evenings which is when I go to work so I just skipped out on workouts for the last two weeks. BAD CHOICE #1! I should have gotten my big bootie out of bed in the morning and worked out before I was even thinking about work.

I was "too busy" to pack a healthy lunch and cook well rounded meals. I generally have no problem eating healthy at home. I buy good foods and make good choices, but get me out in the real world and things go awry. Trips to the cafeteria and nights of ordering out foods from local restaurants have killed my weight loss this week and frankly haven't helped in the budget department either. This was the only thing carrying me from week to week when I had dips in my exercise routine.

Plans: Tonight is my last night at work for the next week. I am going to get back on track starting tonight by packing a healthy lunch. I am going to workout four times this week since I will not be worrying at all about going to work or being overly busy. I would like to try to get in the habit of working out right after Jack and I eat breakfast on the days we are home together. He is usually in a good mood and I don't have to worry about him being too fussy in the stroller like in the evenings. If I can make this small habit change I think it will really help me on the weeks I have a lot going on during the week.

Have you ever had a backslide? How did you get back on track? What did you do to stay motivated?

We went out of town for Memorial Day and needless to say I was no longer on a diet or working out for the week. No worries I paid for it. After weeks of eating healthy my little binge made me really sick to my stomach for two days. We are home and I am somewhat back on track. Not gonna lie, workouts have been really hard!!

Last two weeks of weight loss: 4lbs. A really nice surprise considering last weekend and a true reflection of how good I have been eating. This brings my total weight loss to 14lbs in 7 weeks.

Workouts have got to get back on track. I have a million reasons why I have not been doing them...I'm bored, too hot, too stressed, too much to do, my knees hurt, and so on. I have got to cut the excuses and get to work. I know that this weight loss is going to slow down if I don't get moving. I think it has been really easy to ignore the workout aspect of things because I am still loosing weight but I know I will be very disappointed if I get stalled out because of my lack of hard work.

Clothes are fitting better, and I have gotten a few compliments from people I have not seen in awhile so I am going to really focus on these things to motivate me. Here are some other goals of mine...

If I stay on track this week I could say good bye to the 170's next week. Do you know how good that would feel?!? Have a productive week!!

P.S. I have moved up in the ranks quite a bit on TBB so if you have time will you give me a vote... Pretty Please!!!

Beautiful weather, beautiful babies, and a beautiful best friend. A girl couldn't ask for more.

We took the babies, who are looking more like toddlers these days, to Deana Rose. They were all smiles; well most of the day.

It was a peaceful morning of exploring new things for these two cuties.

Cows, goats, and a pig that can run kept these littles busy all morning. Jack was a little more interested in making mud pies and finding things to dismantle while Natalie loved on the goats and giggled. They fill out the roles of a boy and girl quite nicely.

Here is our day in photos...

Ringing the bells. Jackson was shaking the whole chain while Natalie rang each bell carefully examining each of them.
They both loved going up the slide together and carefully tried to help the other up.

Jack liked running around the pen chasing the goats. That was until he bit the dust, and fell on his head in goat poo. It is a good thing I don't get worked up by a little goat poo.
In this particular photo Jackson is telling me "NO." When I tell him no these days he points at me and shakes his head no back at me. He wanted to play in the goat water...
Can't wait for a summer full of fun with these special people.Jenn Ryanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16326085015978221643noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7830212319844677549.post-51643185816614801032012-05-23T00:36:00.000-05:002012-06-01T22:53:36.724-05:00Week 5: 10 pounds and 10 confessionsWell I did it...my first 10 pounds gone!! Yay!!!

Just 5 weeks ago I was soul searching for some motivation and I finally feel like I have found some motivation in how I feel and just the fact that the pounds are coming off slowly but surely.

Weight Loss: 1.8 pounds this week. Just shy of the two pound goal I have for each week.

Best Part of the Week: Getting to this ten pound mark this week has a little more meaning to me than it typically would because I was so sick this past week that I was unable to work out at all. The prior week Jackson was sick and I was only able to workout one day. I was sure that I would not be able to meet my goal since I had essentially not worked out in two weeks. This makes me feel really good about my nutrition and how well I am doing with eating healthy.

Worst Part of the Week: I really feel like I lost a little bit of steam with being sick. I have been tired and feel like my endurance has taken a hit. I just have to find a way to get back in the groove.

In honor of ten pounds gone here are ten confessions I hope to say good-bye to or progress from in the coming weeks:

1. Four weeks ago I weighed more than my husband.
2. I hate vegetables. Unless of course they are smothered in Ranch dressing.
3. I used to consume 4-6 slices of pizza on pizza night compared to my current 2 slices.
4. I have high cholesterol at age 27.
5. I am so overweight I can no longer walk in high heels; its awkward and uncomfortable.
6. I used to be a size 4. Now I am a size 12-14.
7. I have gained my weight over many years with most of my weight gain spikes in difficult emotional times or times I was feeling depressed.
8. I have a sweet tooth! :)
9. I ran for 3 minutes straight today and it nearly killed me...only 3 minutes.
10. Although I have made great strides I still weigh 174 pounds; which means my starting weight was 184.6 pounds. Wow!!

I'm not quite brave enough to post any progress photos of myself in my skin tight progress clothing but maybe after another ten pounds and I will start to feel confident again.Jenn Ryanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16326085015978221643noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7830212319844677549.post-33903687417563370612012-05-21T00:01:00.000-05:002012-05-21T00:02:17.730-05:00Mommy's Day Re-DoThis year on Mother's Day I was in no condition to celebrate. I love my little boy and he treated his Mommy so good on Mother's Day but this year was horrible. I was so sick I barely made it through the breakfast the boys made for me. They did such a good job getting me fresh picked flowers, hand making a card together, and texting me at work to get my breakfast request. It was all set up cute when I got home from work but I was just not feeling well. Shortly after eating I had to go to bed and get some rest.

This weekend we did a re-do and it was wonderful!! We spent the morning getting Jackson's pictures taken and he was so funny and cute!! He jumped into the fountain at one point which was hilarious; never a dull moment. We all snuggled up for a nice nap after lunch and then headed out to Crown Center. We decided to go to the new Sea Life Aquarium since Jackson loves to explore new things. Here is our day in photos...

(Please excuse some of my photos. There was no flash photography and I am not the best at low light photography.)

He stood in amazement the entire tour.
Jackson loved how these rays would swim over by him and then up to the top of the water to flap one side out of the water before diving back down. At one point these two startled him a bit and he turned around and ran shking his head.
I've always known I wanted to be a Mother but never knew how much it would mean to me, and how it would change me. This little boy and my little family are what I live for. We have more fun than I could have ever imagined and my life feels so full with these two by my side. I am so happy, I am so blessed to have Jackson and Jess to share in my life. I thank God for these two guys every single day.

Off to bed now...My little angel is still up at midnight...don't ask me why?? Have a wonderful week, and if it has been a while since you have had a day of family fun, pick a day next weekend and do it!!Jenn Ryanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16326085015978221643noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7830212319844677549.post-57919213262314690022012-05-20T22:46:00.002-05:002012-05-20T22:46:17.615-05:0013 MonthsContinuing on our first year tradition of monthly photos we will be doing Jackson's second year in photos as well. This year I am doing things a little more casual to fit into our busy schedule. This particular month was VERY casual, aka in his stroller while waiting in line at the aquarium. Hey, can't blame a girl for multi-tasking and keeping her child entertained for a 25 minute wait. Jack's thirteenth month...

Our baby boy is no longer a baby. He is all boy!!

At 13 months Jackson weighs 22 pounds 6 ounces and is 29 1/2 inches tall. He is wearing 12 month sized clothes and a couple of 18 month Carters outfits. He seems so tall this month and several times I have put on a pair of his jammies only to realize they are too short for him. These nights usually leave me a bit choked up about how much he is changing.
We have settled into a sweet spot lately with our routine and his personality. He continues to love making us laugh which he does often. Our days consist of a very predictable schedule thanks to his awesome new daycare teachers. They assured me on his first day in the new room that in just a couple of weeks he would be "trained." Jackson gets up each day around 8a.m., eats breakfast, plays, eats lunch, takes one three hour nap, plays, eats dinner, plays, bathtime, then bedtime at 7:15p.m. I feel like I have my life back a bit because during his wonderful three hour nap I am able to tackle most everything I need to get done for the day, or study, or relax. The rest of the time I am able to fully enjoy hanging out with my little boy.
Jack has transitioned over to whole milk and didn't seem to even notice when we switched. He LOVES his milk. We also cut out another bottle from his schedule so now he just gets a bedtime bottle. I am afraid this is going to be a hard one to cut out. And a slight tangent here...I have noticed when I am out and about people let their kids drink out of bottles for a really long time. Is it more convenient or something? I just don't get it. The last couple of times I have been out I have seen 18-24 month olds drinking out of bottles. Did I miss something? (Sorry, just wondering if I am doing something wrong??)
I can visibly see him learning everyday. He is following one and some two step directions and understands everything!! We have started to spell some words because as soon as he hears these words he is dead set on having or doing them. I can tell he wants to be more verbal and he tries to get some words out but nothing is really making sense to me. I talked to his pediatrician about this and he said it is totally normal. I returned with, "well, is it totally normal for me to be stressed that he isn't saying words?" I feel bad but I get a little frustrated that I work with him a lot and read books and get on his level and show him what things are and how to say them but he isn't making words. Guess I am being a little too pushy (imagine that). Jackson is very good at his signs though. He signs eat, more, and please and points to everything in order to communicate.
Jackson is very well behaved most of the time but he also has a two year old attitude as of late. Fits have begun and his pedi assures me that once they turn 13 months they mine as well be two years old and that lasts for the next three years. So we are learning how to deal with fits and whining in our home. It is so difficult...the rational things you think should work usually escalate the problem but I know if I let him walk all over me we will have serious issues later. I have thought about getting a book to help prepare me for these types of behaviors and how to best handle them. Any suggestions are much appreciated...

We so enjoy being this little guys parents. I am so excited for all that this summer has in store for us. He is at such a fun age for water play, outdoor activities, and lots of fun. I love this cute face!!
I usually thrash around the bed trying to get comfortable and I cry at least once a day about how miserable I feel. Really, I think Jackson is better at the whole sick thing than I am, at least he can manage to play. It has been a while since I can remember being as sick as I am right now with fever, and chills. Hopefully we are able to shake this off soon and get back to normal life, but most of all I hope this doesn't set me back this week. I need to take time to rest but it is so hard when you have things you want to accomplish. Anyway to my weigh in for the week...

Weight Loss/Gain: Down another 1.5 lbs!! I am just one pound from losing my first ten pounds. WOW, that went by fast. I was thinking this week about how far away the next ten pounds seems and that maybe I should have a smaller victory to look forward to before that next goal. I haven't been able to remember what my pre-pregnancy weight was but I thought that would be an awesome achievement. Good thing I kept a very detailed pregnancy journal complete with weekly weigh-ins. After my first ten pounds I am going to focus on getting to my pre-preggo weight which will be just six pounds.

Best part of this week: Everything is becoming a little more routine to me. Fitting in workouts and choosing the right foods is becoming second nature and something that seems easier to fit into my busy schedule. I enjoy getting active and it has become a bit of a family affair. I don't have any friends that live close enough to me that I can workout with regularly but my hubby steps in and becomes my workout partner when I really need one to stay motivated.

Worst part of this week: My knees have been killing me from all of the pavement running I have been doing. I do love the training program for the 5K but I need to scale back a bit. I have been doing three nights a week of running on a concrete surface and it is starting to take a toll. I am going to try to switch to a track running surface for one of the days and see if that helps. Also I feel like I need to incorporate a more dynamic workout a couple days a week in order to work some other muscle groups and so that I can keep my body guessing. It is so easy to do the running program because I can put Jackson in the stroller and go anytime during the day or evening. In order to do something different I have to be able to put him somewhere that he won't be in danger of getting kicked in the face by one of my awesome moves.

Thought I would leave you with something funny for this week as I need a little humor boost today...
