Celebrate!!

I have been enjoying lots and lots of playtime this week and it has been glorious!!  Jackson gets more and more fun everyday; staying awake for longer periods of time, starting to "play" with toys, and tons of smiling and cooing.  He is the cutest boy in the world!! (Yeah I know I am biased)

When we haven't been playing at home we have been out and about playing!  Jack went to his first ball game this week.  I think he is going to love sports.  He was so content sitting in Grandma's lap watching the game and getting some sunshine.

Peyton, my little sis, is so sporty and reminds me so much of how I was when I was little.  So determined!!

We even managed to make it to church this weekend for the first time as a family of three.  Jackson slept through the whole service and as soon as he heard the car door close to come home he started crying.  At least we made it through church.  We are starting the plans for Jackson's baptism and I am hoping to have a date set in the next couple of weeks.

Jack gets himself so tickled sometimes, it just cracks me up.  When he smiles he smiles with his whole body.  First he gets a little grin, then a bigger smile that squints his eyes.  This usually gets him so excited that he starts to wiggle his whole body.  He ends the fun with a little laugh!  Soo cute!!

Other times he is so very serious as if he is studying the world around him.

To top the weekend off we planned an outing to Celebration at the Station.  We used to go to this event every year but the past couple we have been out of town or too busy to find time to go out there.  This year we decided to spend the evening out there picnicking with friends and family, lounging in lawn chairs, and laying out on quilts napping in the sunshine.  It was so very relaxing and nice to be out of the house in the nice spring weather.

We listened to The Kansas City Symphony and at sundown they coordinate fireworks and cannons to the music.  It was such a good time.  Of course my son has my luck and of all the 100's of people around us he gets nailed in the head with a frisbee during a diaper change.  I freaked out as he is screaming (diaper less I might add) and the woman who threw the frisbee can't stop asking me if he is ok.  He was just fine after calming down and the lady felt really bad.  I was shaking for about an hour as I was so scared he might really be hurt, and Daddy was a little peeved but managed to keep his cool.  We had such a relaxing night just sitting out there talking and laughing.  Jackson got to see his first fireworks show and he quite enjoyed it!

I was determined to learn how to use my camera to get some good shots of fireworks.  I even did a little research prior to going so I would know just how to get the best pictures.  Well all I have to say is "easier said than done".  I didn't like how most of the pictures turned out but I guess I got a few that were good.  The shutter speed was either too fast or too slow and every picture has some smoke in it from the previous firework.  If anyone has any good tips on catching the perfect picture of fireworks with a dslr I am all ears.

Today was all about chillin out at home and resting.  We slept in and lounged in our jammies most of the day.  Jess is sick with a sinus infection so he was miserable and needing the rest.  Hope he is on the mend soon!

It was a great and busy holiday weekend that has left me feeling so thankful for friends, family, and fun.  Hope everyone else enjoyed their holiday and the extra day off.  Now it's time to kick off the summer!!

Jackson: One Month Old

This cutie patootie turned one month old last week!!

Jackson is such a big boy and growing even more everyday.  We have had our fair share of rough nights and fussy days but for the most part he is such a good baby and so very happy.

As I am sure you can see, he is an eater!  He eats about every 3 hours during the day and has been going longer stretches at night.  We weighed him on our scale this week and he was 10.5lbs. We won't know his official weight in ounces until his two month check-up but I bet by then he will be at least twelve pounds.

Jack isn't the best sleeper but we are making strides towards better nights.  He has a very hard time going down at night because he startles very easily on his back.  Usually I snuggle him up for about an hour before putting him in the bassinet, this way he is good and asleep.  I know he is ready to go to down when his passy falls right out of his mouth because he is so out.  We get one "long" stretch of 4-5 hours and then several small three hour stretches.  Mommy and Daddy are sleeping in until about ten o'clock but this is an improvement from our days of getting up at noon.

One of our favorite things about Jack are his little (or shall I say big) feet.  It cracks me up that he was born into almost a size 2.

Jackson loves to use his mornings to sleep so mommy can get a few things done around the house.  We have a short playtime in the morning but he saves all his energy for the night.  He starts to get very active in the early evening after dinner and will stay up until about 9p.m.  He is mastering holding his head up and looking around at toys.  During tummy time this week he even decided to roll over!!  The evenings are my favorite time because he gets so smiley and starts to coo and aww at me.  I have wanted to get a photo of his giant smile but I am usually so enamored by it that I forget to snap the photo.  This week I am going to have Jess take the photo while I just stare at his gorgeous smile.

I love being a mother more than anything else in my life.  I feel so blessed that God not only chose me to be Jack's mom but also that he is so healthy and happy.  I spend hours a day playing, talking, and sometimes just staring at him.  In the middle of the night when the room is dark and it is just the two of us up for a feeding he looks at me with those "you are my mommy!" eyes and then gives me the sweetest grin.  Those are the best moments of my life.  They are the moments that make me forget about the office project I took on way to close to our due date (that still remains unfinished), and the dirty dishes in the sink, and the laundry piling up in the hamper.  My life is forever changed in the best ways.

On a side note, we started cloth diapering today and so far we both love it!  With every diaper change today we were counting out how much money we were saving.  It truly has been easy.  I am not naive though, it is day one, so I will let you know how it is going on a later post.

This momma and baby are ready to CRASH!!  Have an awesome day!

What's in a Name Anyway??

I have wanted to create a blog for a long time now but for some reason I have made every excuse in the book to avoid actually sitting down and getting it done.  This last week I finally I decided to get to work.  I created an account, logged in, and started the process.  For those of you that have a blog you all know the first thing you have to do is create a name for your blog.  I am not sure why but this part of the process had not occurred to me, so needless to say I was lost.  I am horrible with names, always have been.  It doesn't matter if I am remembering them, or making them up, I am just awful with names. I have spent the last week struggling to find the perfect name; you know the one that isn't too corny, but also isn't boring, and don't forget something original.  I am not sure I really made any progress but I decided to go with something that describes our life.  My husband and I are high school sweethearts who are new parents to a beautiful baby boy.  Everything in our lives right now revolves around our son.  We are learning his routine and all the ins and outs of being parents.

This blog will mostly be about mommyhood and all of it's wonderful blessings but back when I first thought about creating a blog, before I was even pregnant, it was going to be all about organization, crafting, scrapbooking, and home projects.  You can guess that is what life was all about pre-baby.  I love everything about organization!  Most of my friends will tell you that I am the one they call on to get their things in order.  Well that part of my life is a little on hold right now.  In fact if I showed anyone a picture of my house right now they would laugh at the thought of me ever being organized.  It looks as though Babies R Us threw up in my living room.  Eventually our lives will return to some state of normalcy and I will share all of the ways I get organized around here, hopefully starting with our closets.

All in all I hope you Enjoy!! (whether you like the name or not)

I will be posting Jackson's one month pictures soon!!
Have a great weekend!!
